The six-passenger option swaps the second-row bench for captain's chairs. Tremor is new for 2026 and replaces the discontinued Timberline. XLT and Limited were dropped with the 2025 redesign and do not exist in the 2026 lineup, so ignore them if you see them on an older comparison page.

Seven-passenger seating is standard on every trim. The third row is genuinely usable, and it is usable in the way midsize three-row SUVs are usable: fine for kids, fine for adults across town, and not where you put a six-foot adult for four hours.
That is not a knock on the Explorer. It is true of the whole class. We would rather you hear it here than discover it on the way to Atlanta.
The cargo trade nobody mentions
With all three rows up you have 18.2 cu ft behind the back seats. That is a grocery run and a few school bags, not a family holiday's luggage. Fold the third row and it becomes 47.9 cu ft. Fold both and it opens to 87.8 cu ft.
The practical question is not whether you have seven seats. It is how often you need seven seats and luggage at the same time. For most Clarksville families the answer is a handful of weekends a year, which is exactly what a folding third row is for.
The one that saves people money: seating and cargo are identical across all five trims. If the third row is the reason you are shopping, the Active has exactly the same one as the ST. Moving up the lineup buys drivetrain, suspension, materials and technology. It does not buy space.
